GREEN PARTY GEARS UP FOR PIVOTAL CONVENTION IN RED DEER
EDMONTON – Members of the Green Party of Alberta will converge in Red Deer this coming Saturday, November 16, 2019 in what promises to be a pivotal convention.
The gathering is the first to feature the Annual General Meeting component since the April 2019 provincial general election and members will be participating in executive elections, vote on constitutional and by-law motions and situate the party for the foreseeable future.
“We’re expecting a very focused, enlivening and high-energy event,” says Will Carnegie, Interim Leader of the Green Party of Alberta and Candidate of Record for Calgary-East. “This is an opportunity for members to take stock of what we need to do as a party to improve our organization.”
Participatory Democracy is a key Green Party value and conventions enable members to hold their executive to account and to shape the future of the party.
“It is obvious that Albertans increasingly want to Greens to be at the heart of their politics. We’re coming off a federal election in which more than 57,000 people in the province voted Green Party, up 8000 from 2015. We now need to act on that momentum to ensure we bring about the growth of the party going forward,” says Carnegie.
The Convention’s registration period occurs between 9-9:30 am on November 16, 2019. The venue for the event is the Baymont Inn, situated at 4311 49 Avenue, Red Deer.
